There is some good news today for those who wish to visit a “galaxy far, far away.”

We’re now one step closer to being able to immerse ourselves in the immersive universe of Star Wars. Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is one of the most anticipated additions to its Disney World Resort. has published a new teaser trailer jam-packed with information, including a spring 2022 release date.

This corresponds to alleged opening dates that have circulated in recent months as a result of job advertisements for cast members and construction permits submitted.

The whole video seen below, shows Disney Imagineers discussing the creative process and some of the challenges involved in creating what is expected to be the most immersive experience in existence for visitors.

“We’re inviting guests to step into a galaxy far, far away and live out a Star Wars story over two days and two nights,” said Ann Morrow Johnson, executive producer and creative director at Walt Disney Imagineering.

That’s right: while the tale begins when you go through the terminal and are taken to the bridge of the Starship Halcyon, you won’t spend the entire time onboard.

Guests will be able to go to the planet of Batuu (aka Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge within Hollywood Studios) to explore and continue the tale across the park. Guests will be able to ‘fly’ aboard the Millennium Falcon in Smuggler’s Run and try to avoid the First Order in Rise of the Resistance.

Both of these attractions contribute to the bigger tale that emerges during the encounter.

In the recently released film, Disney Imagineers also explained how guests would be able to not only watch the narrative unfold around them, but also step into roles and play a part in it. Who you talk to, the tasks you embark on, and the decisions you make on the ship and on Batuu will all create your own unique experience in this epic narrative that will be recounted.

Do you wish to be a fighter pilot who assists the resistance during your stay? You are welcome to come dressed in full cosplay attire (as long as it complies with Disney costume rules, of course) and act out the narrative.

Do you want to become a Jedi? Grab your lightsaber and learn how to use it to access the Force.

Alternatively, you may take a step back and simply observe the tale unfolding around you while still having a completely immersive and magnificent experience that is unique to your voyage onboard.

The objective was to create a dynamic experience that anybody could enjoy, regardless of their degree of knowledge about the Star Wars universe.

“There’s something for people who have loved the older movies or who are really into the TV shows or the novels or the graphic novels, those types of things. There’s just a lot of different ways to access the content,” said Anisha Deshmane, assistant producer at Walt Disney Imagineering.

Based on the conversation, it appears that as a member of the Starcruiser passenger manifest, passengers may also have access to unique discounts for souvenirs or exceptional experiences.

Could the Galactic Starcruiser make its formal debut on May 4, 2022? It’s conceivable that the launch may coincide with the unofficial May the Fourth Star Wars holiday, but there’s no word on a specific date other than “spring.”

Regardless of the exact date, it is evident that this event will be unlike anything else in the galaxy. Disney is pushing the word “immersive” to a whole new level, enabling guests not only to experience the narrative firsthand, but also to play a unique role in a bigger canon story that exists outside the limits of the resort and park gates.

“I think that’s one of the things that’s so special about Star Wars, right, is that there is that depth and breadth of storytelling within the galaxy far, far away,” said Johnson. “It allows us to generate this completely new storyline that is specifically so that our guests can live out their stories within this piece of canon. But it really does touch and connect to movies, tv shows … the land, and it all kind of interweaves with the history of the planets that we know and love.”
